8 Sleep. 9 Get out. Enoshima (江ノ島) is both a small island and a small seaside town next to the island in Kanagawa prefecture, to the south of Tokyo. It's a popular beach destination and, on a nice summer day, has a bit of a laid-back California surfer vibe.

Administratively, Enoshima is part of the mainland city of Fujisawa, and is linked to the Katase section of that city by a 389-metre-long (1,276 ft) bridge. Home to some of the closest sandy beaches to Tokyo and Yokohama , the island and adjacent coastline are the hub of a local resort area.

There's actually no sand beach on Enoshima so when we refer to Enoshima Katase Beach, it's actually the beach just in front of Enoshima, on the main island. Only 60 minutes from the capital of Japan, Enoshima island is a charming seaside resort for Tokyoites. Katase Beach, which includes Higashihama Beach to the east and Nishihama Beach to the west, is one of Japan's most popular beaches.

Enoshima is a small touristy island near Kamakura that's known for its beach culture and views of Mount Fuji. The island is connected to the mainland by bridge. Much of Enoshima is only accessible by foot or boat.
